These color images are created from MAGPIS 20 cm radio data plus 3.6 to 8 µm infrared images of the Galactic plane taken with the Spitzer Space Telescope IRAC camera from the Galactic Legacy Infrared Mid-Plane Survey Extraordinaire (GLIMPSE). The radio emission is red, while the GLIMPSE 3.6, 5.8, and 8.0 µm data are used for the green-blue colors.
The images are large (11000×2857 2-arcsec pixels, 6.1×1.6 degrees). The links go to an interactive display that allows zooming and panning the images and also permits (limited) changes in the image contrast. Adjacent images overlap by about 1 degree of longitude.
